‘Why Should Our Rage Be Tidy? - Beyond Talking, Moving to Action and Transformation’

On 28 November 2024, Imkaan hosted a landmark event that bought national attention to the intersection of violence, trauma, abuse and mental ill-health in the lives of Black and minoritised women and girl victims of BAWG.

It was a pivotal moment - a call to acknowledge, confront, discuss and understand the compounding impact of racism and gendered violence within systems meant to care.

Building on that momentum, in June 2025, we hosted an online event to launch Phase 2 of the work - an event designed to move beyond conversation and into action. We brought together ‘by and for’ Black and minoritised organisations and survivors with policymakers, MPs, sector leaders, and organisers - those with the influence and power to generate real structural change. Where Phase 1 focused on exposure, truth-telling and building shared understanding, Phase 2 is about moving beyond conversation, towards accountability, momentum and making structural change happen - in policy, in systems and in practice. Building systems of care that are anti-racist, trauma-informed, and truly intersectional.

The event included powerful contributions, deep insight, and lived experience - demanding more than performative ‘listening’. We explored the necessity for collaboration with, and funding of, specialist ‘by and for’ VAWG organisations to shape services, recruit equitably, and deliver care that honours the dignity and safety of all women.

This video is a full recording of the event, including speaker sessions, reflections, and calls to action.

We thank every speaker, contributor and participant for the space they held and the insight they brought. Whether you joined us live or are discovering this now, we’re grateful for your time and your commitment to ending violence against women and girls (VAWG) - and we invite you to reflect on what was shared, take forward the call to action, and consider how you can be part of what’s next.
