Pathways of Hope: Housing Justice for Black and Minoritised Survivors

August 2025

Imkaan has launched Pathways of Hope - a major national, survivor-led programme tackling the housing crisis facing Black and minoritised women fleeing violence and abuse.

Too many survivors are being failed by housing systems that were never designed with their needs in mind. Women are left trapped with abusers, placed in unsafe or unsuitable temporary accommodation, or shut out of refuge and support altogether; including because of immigration status and ‘no recourse to public funds’ (NCPF) barriers.

Pathways of Hope centres lived experience and frontline practice to:

  • Build evidence on housing inequality, homelessness and systemic barriers; including the realities of NRPF.

  • Amplify survivor and practitioner voices, so decision-makers cannot dismiss this as a niche issue

  • Influence national housing and VAWG policy, including submissions to key consultations (including supported housing)

  • Push for trauma-informed housing responses that deliver safety, dignity and genuine options; not just a roof.

Delivered with Imkaan member organisations including London Black Women’s Project, Amadudu Women’s Refuge, Anah Project, Asha Projects, Ashiana Network, Latin American Women’s Aid and Panahghar, Pathways of Hope is building a three-year evidence base (August 2024 – July 2027) to drive reform across housing and VAWG systems.

Housing is not an add-on to safety. It is the foundation.
