Key facts about the South Asian Women's Refuge Sector:
They provide 265 bed spaces for South Asian women experiencing domestic violence and their children across the UK.
Of the 27 refuges:
- 5 provide additional resource centres with drop-in facilities,
- 8 provide additional outreach services,
- 16 provide resettlement support to women for between 3 and 6 months after they have left the refuge.
They range in size from one service site to four sites.
Staff teams range in size from 1 to 19.
On average staff teams speak 5-6 Asian languages.
They accept referrals from 22 different statutory and voluntary sources including schools, hospitals, housing offices, the foreign office and help lines.
In addition to supporting women on domestic violence issues they provide support to enable women to deal with addictions, self-harm, mental distress, immigration and asylum status, the legal and criminal justice systems.
